I have a virus!
What to do if you have a virus!
Viruses are everywhere, and even if you are careful, you can still get one. Some simple basics on preventing, and removing viruses.
Please note, that this will take some level of computer knowlege. If you are not comfortable with performing these operations, please contact Wingman Studio, or your local IT support person for assistance.
There are many different software packages which provide protection from viruses, trojans, spyware, malware, and all kinds of other nasties that can affect your computing life.
Some are free while most others require a 'subscription'.
The old adage, you get what you pay for holds true for your computer too.
While the free anti-virus software does a decent job at keeping the bugs out of your computer, most people will require more protection than they offer.
Anti-Virus software is just that, it helps prevent, and eliminate viruses on your computer. However, additional protection is required to truly protect your privacy, images, documents, and anything else on your computer.
What do you Need?
In this day and age you need a package product that offers firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, spyware protection etc, etc, etc.
It is these packages that are being offered not when you purchase an antivirus software package for your computer. This type of software will prevent, and eliminate most of the nasties that can onvade your computer.
There are many different players in the anti-virus game these days, Norton, Mcafee, AVG, Bit Defender, Kaspersky, and many more.
It is your choice on what you get. However, if you are not sure of what to get, ask someone. Shop around.
Personally I have use Norton, Kasperskly, McAfee, and Bit Defender products. They are all good, but they all come with some nuances that could irritate the most patient person.
Now, one item of interest that we run across is the invincible virus. You clean it out but it seems to keep coming back!
WHY?!?!
Well there is a little thing on your PC called SYSTEM RESTORE.
What System Restore does is take a snapshot of your PC at various times and makes a back up that you can go back to if you do something to your computer that messes things up. The virus is in there to safe and snug from the AV program.
If you have this issue, it is painful, BUT you HAVE to turn off the system restore to delete the backups, re-scan your system and then turn the system restore back on once it is all clean.
We have encountered this many many times and if you didn't know any better..it can really be frustrating.
Hope this helps someone at sometime!
