I Have a Virus - Part Two
We have run across these situations countless times where someone contacts us about a virus they have on their computer, because they heard we can perform the impossible.
When you realized that you have a virus there is usually a knot that develops in your stomache, sweat starts to bead on your forhead because you don't know how to fix it.
They tell us their horror story about how they took it into a local computer store and asked them to fix it.
Then how they charged you anywhere from $75.00 to $200.00 to "clean it" and when you got back home you found they just formatted and reinstalled the operating system, hence you lost EVERYTHING!
Which, coincidentally, is one of the reasons you still have beads of sweat on your forehead.
Plus there is their trick of trying to sell you some additional software or hardware you don't really need.
(Yes we have seen this happen too)
We get people contacting us about this problem when they hear that we can clean it WITHOUT you losing all your precious documents and personal things.
Why can we do it and others can't or won't?
Because WE CARE!
Now there are times when the virus is so deep, because you tried to "Work through it" that it has corrupted files, or eaten your hard drive and if that is the case, we can only do so much. But 95% of the time, it is not that bad ESPECIALLY if you follow these simple rules...
1. If you get a virus and do NOT know how to clean it - Shut the computer off and take out the internet (LAN) cable.
2. Call an IT Person.
Some viruses are nasty and take a bit to find and clean, some are relatively easy...We just fixed one on a young ladies laptop a few days ago in about and hour, saving all her important stuff. She was very happy with the results.
There are products out there that you can use to clean it up yourself, BUT it does require a little IT savvy to work it.
Some things you need to do a certain way to even be able to work with a few of these infections. The Spyware, Malware, Trojans, and Hijackers, can be tough, and can make you pull your hair out, but nothing is impossible.
If you are the slightest bit intimidated, call an IT person.
If you don't care about losing all your data and information, take to your local computer store and they will "clean" it for you.
The sole purpose of this post is to inform you that there are other alternatives available than the age old
"Format C:" and factory re-install that you can do when in this situation.
So if you feel lost, don't know what to do, give us a call or contact us and we will call you.
We can usually advise you of your options and may even be able to guide you through fixing it yourself.
Our statement, "We are there for you", is our basic Wingman philosophy and one of the many reasons for our posts.
